Five parts, one living system

A pond that keeps itself clear.

The skimmer takes the surface. The filter grows the good bacteria. Rock and gravel give them a home. Plants eat the nutrients, fish graze the algae, and the pump keeps it all moving.

Fish that overwinter

Two feet deep or more, a hole kept in the ice, and your koi sleep through January under the snow.

A waterfall you hear indoors

Every package includes the falls and the stream. Open the window and the yard sounds like a creek.

Low maintenance by design

Empty the skimmer, net the leaves in fall, a spring clean. Or put it on a plan and just enjoy it.

What moves the number: the amount of rock, access for the machine, lighting, and how far we travel. On a free call Joey looks at a photo of the spot and gives you a real figure.

Under the surface

Built for the fish first.

Depth for winter, flow for oxygen, gravel for the bacteria that do the real work. A koi pond that stays clear was designed around the fish, not decorated with them afterwards.

Feeding koi by hand at the edge of an ecosystem pond

January

Yes, it works in an Ontario winter.

The falls keep running under the ice if you want them to, the fish sleep below, and the whole thing wakes up in April. We build every pond for the winter it will actually get.

What owners say

Five years on, still thriving.

Clearwater Creations are the absolute best. They built me a beautiful pond 5 years ago. It was beautiful then and has continued to thrive. If you want a most excellent water feature don't go anywhere else.

Straight answers

What people ask Joey on the first call.

What is an ecosystem pond?

A pond that keeps itself clear. A skimmer takes the surface, a biological filter grows the good bacteria, rock and gravel give them a home, plants eat the nutrients, fish graze the algae, and the pump keeps it all moving. Nothing to dose.

What about the fish in winter?

We build at least two feet deep and keep a hole in the ice with an aerator or de-icer. Stop feeding below 10 degrees and the fish sleep through it.

Do I run the pump in winter?

Either way. Some owners keep the falls running for the sound and the ice. Others shut down and run a small aerator. We set it up for whichever you prefer.

Will I get algae?

A little is normal and healthy. Plants, fish, gravel bacteria and constant circulation keep it in check. A new pond takes a few weeks to find its balance.

Mosquitoes?

No. The water never stands still, the skimmer sweeps the surface, and the fish eat anything that lands.

How much maintenance?

A spring clean-out, netting and cutting back in fall, and emptying the skimmer basket every few days in season. Or put it on a plan and just enjoy it.

Is it leaking?

Probably not. An inch or two of evaporation a week is normal in summer. If the level keeps dropping, turn the waterfall off; where it stops is where to look, and it is almost always an edge. The liner carries a 20-year guarantee.

What does a pond cost?

The Garden Pond from $23,900, The Backyard Pond from $33,100, The Big Pond from $56,900, The Estate Pond from $90,600, waterfall included. Rock, access and distance move the number.
